Profile

Peggy Roberts McMahon is a Miami native with over forty years of experience in architecture, interior design and construction.

She spent her childhood on jobsites or in the office learning the nuts and bolts of general contracting. Lyle Roberts, Inc. was the leader in custom residential and commercial construction in South Florida for over 45 years. She witnessed the making of long term client and sub-contractor relationships built on service, respect and quality workmanship that have become her hallmarks as well.

She graduated from University of Miami with a BA in Fine Arts and applied her design training and construction background as a design assistant at Richard Plumer Interior Design. She joined Spillis Candela & Partners and became a project manager of the James L. Knight Center among other projects. The Design Team, Inc. was founded in 1983.

In 1996, her passion for architecture led Peggy back to the classroom. She graduated at the top of her class with a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Miami, while raising three children. Her awards include the AIA's Henry Adams Certificate of Merit for general excellence in Architecture and First Place in the CSI Specifications Competition.

She interned with Arquitectonica as a senior designer of the Golden Moon Casino, Philadelphia, Ms. and project manager of its Preview Center. She interned with Hochstim Krantz Architects on renovations of residential and commercial buildings in Coral Gables and Coconut Grove. She maintains an active interest in historic preservaton and sustainable design.

Carlos Palmer grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, finished his schooling in Europe, and studied Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

He is a licensed Architect in the state of Florida over 20 years of expertise in diverse international projects in the US, Europe, and South America, with a multi-disciplinary trajectory on both sides of the counter, and a comprehensive knowledge in all phases of the design / build process.

As a project architect he has worked on the renovation of the Sears Tower, and other high profile corporate and institutional buildings in the Chicago area. In the Conrad International Resort and Casino in Uruguay, he was the liaison between the US design Architects, the local Architects, and the construction company.

He was then hired directly by the Hilton Corporation as client representative to finalize interior design, FF&E, and manage the project through to opening.

As an independent Architect he has had a succession of published projects, including private homes, high end retail stores, and hospitality resorts. He has developed a reputation in the Miami area building departments for the commitment and care he puts into his projects.

We strive for a strong concept that will nurture the design by focusing on substance and quality rather than trends. We tackle projects on a case by case basis with a very broad minded approach initially. This allows us to explore several options and arrive at the final design through the process of elimination and evolution.

Our collective experience, drawn from years of design and on-site construction management, allows us to formulate buildable designs that are rationally conceived, appropriate to the site and end use, as well as the budget. Our commitment and care in the production of permit drawings is paramount in our services and translates into high building department approval rates. Accurate drawings produce accurate and competitive bids that keep the project costs under control and ensure a smooth ride during the construction phase (where mistakes are very costly.)

The Design Team, Inc. is a full service architecture and interior design firm. Our small size allows us to provide personalized and dynamic service in an effective and professional manner. We have successfully completed projects that ranged from initial site analysis and planning to project management, purchasing and installation, for complete turnkey service.
